God’s beauty surrounding the famous “Sin City”

Las Vegas a.k.a. the “city of lost wages and lost souls”
My boyfriend and I took our vacation to Nevada to see what all the hoopla was about. Thank goodness we had several other things in mind other than the Strip. We had originally planned to be on the strip longer but the first day was enough. In all honesty I was literally in tears at lunch time in the restroom of a restaurant the second day on the strip. Not understanding why I was so emotional nor did my boyfriend, looking back I know it was my soul weeping.

Everyone builds it up so much with all the lights and the things to do and the spectacular hotels……I must say that the fountain show at the Bellagio was outstanding and moving, the pirate show outside the Treasure Island was top notch, but going from hotel to hotel and watching the people of all kinds and all financial statuses, seeing the exploitation, dealing with the harassing people trying to give you free stuff (only if you trade your souls) and the people on the corners trying to give you the naked girly pictures and circulating the nudie bar advertisements; well it just took a toll on me and my soul. I wept for about 10 minutes and then came out and told my boyfriend I was ready to return to the hotel and it was time to find something else to do.

We had spent the first two days at the Valley of fire. This has left an imprint on both of us that will never fade. God’s miraculous nature! We had fun exploring the different hikes, finding little caverns within trails that most people just look past. I held onto this and we decided that the rest of our trip would become a Quest! A quest to fuel that warm fuzzy feeling that comes from deep inside one’s spirit when it recognizes God’s miraculous nature.

We explored Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam; we spent two days in the Red Rock Canyon area and stumbled upon a little place called Bonnie Springs.

Bonnie herself which I am guessing is in her late 80’s was there with all her animals making her rounds talking to the people. She and her husband had purchased this land with the idea of having a stables and a petting zoo for the people to realize what the old west was all about. They built a small little western town, with the people dressing the part and constructed a hotel for people to stay and enjoy. She must have been in her early 20’s when this all started and now some 60 years later still residing on the property still tending to her wild animals (some in which she has raised since they were born) living her dream! Trying to salvage the good of Nevada and sharing it with whomever she could. We ran into her on several occasions and she had lots of stories to tell.

We went on a 2 hour trail ride horseback on our last day there. Absolutely breath taking views and being a horse person anyway I must say outside of my boyfriend proposing to me some 100’s of feet up onto the rocks we had climbed, this part of the trip took the cake!

Oh yea, my boyfriend is now my Fiancé, Everyone thought we were going to come back married, but I can’t imagine doing that anywhere else but home…with my family and friends. So, if you are one who has never been to Nevada, I highly recommend you spend your time at the Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, & Bonnie Springs. You might want to cruise the strip at night to see all the lights and the people but the real sights are God’s beauty surrounding the Strip.
